3. Placement run/walk
In order to group you with other same ability runners we need to determine your APPROXIMATE training pace. You can either do a one-mile or a two-mile EASY run/walk. This will help us determine in which color group fits you the best. This does not mean you can’t change groups. Remember, there is no way to fail this. Take it easy and enjoy the run or walk. The best way to tell if you are pacing yourself properly is to check to see if you can run and talk comfortably at the same time.
For 2 mile run/walk and 1 mile run/walk:
- Go to the trailhead near the
tennis courts.
- Check in with a San Jose Fit coach..
- Proceed up the trail passing through the narrow opening in
the fence.
- Please run/walk single file, if possible. The trail will be crowded
with runners, walkers, bikers, rollerbladers, children and fitters.
- 50 yards ahead you will need to turn right over the
bridge.
- You're over
Highway 17.
Peruse the art work and wave to the cars.
- At the end of the bridge turn right at the
wooden bridge.
Otherwise you will end up in downtown Los Gatos drinking coffee.
- One milers should turn around at the "0.5" marker. This marker as are area all mile markers can be found on the right side of the trail.
- Two milers should continue on.
- When you get to the "1.0" mile marker,
please turn around and return.
- There will be coaches along the trail, so you won’t get lost.
- Check in again with a coach who will determine your training group.
- They will be hand you a slip of paper with a coaches name. This is the group you might start to train with. Remember, this is only a starting point and you may change coaches or groups at any time during the season.
- Receive your colored shoe tag corresponding to your training group.
- Proceed over to the baseball bleachers for the 9:00 orientation talk.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
We will stop sending runners out on to the trail for the
placement run/walk after 8:15 AM. This is to ensure that everyone is back in time for
the 9:00 AM orientation.
4. Orientation at 9:00 AM
Promptly at 9:00 AM, the head coaches will give a welcome and
orientation talk at the
baseball bleachers.
After you have completed your placement run/walk, please proceed to the bleachers for this important and
informative presentation. This is where you can get your questions answered,
learn about the coaches, and get a real feel for San Jose Fit!
